Delaware City

In 1801 the Newbold family from New Jersey purchased land that became known as Newbold’s Landing.  In 1826 the Newbolds drew plans for the city that would rival the ports of Philadelphia and Boston 

Chesapeake & Delaware Canal

The canal is 14 miles long, 450 feet wide and 35 deep connecting the Delaware River  with the Chesapeake Bay through the states of Delaware & Maryland 

Fort Delaware

 A former harbor defense facility located on Pea Patch Island in the Delaware River.  During the American Civil War the Union used it as a prison.
